WAQRAPUKARA FULL DAY
Waqrapukara (Quechua: waqra ‘horn’, pukara ‘fortress’, ‘horn-shaped fortress’). It is an archaeological center located in the district of Acos, province of Acomayo, south of the department of Cusco. Located near the Apurimac River at 4300 m.a.s.l. It was built by the Canchis and then conquered by the Incas. It was possibly an Inca sanctuary. The building is located on platforms, squares and a stone forest.
We leave Cusco at 4:00 in the morning, we travel for about 1 hour and a half on the road to Puno, then we cross the bridge Chuquicahuana and about half an hour more is the town of Pomacanchi. Here we will find a market that serves from very early, an ideal place to have a local breakfast (lamb broth, broth belly, broth head, coffee, milk, etc.). Then we continue our journey through a dirt road that gets lost in the mountains for another hour and a half, passing through small towns like Mancura, San Juan, etc.. Until we reach Santa Lucia. As it is typical in the Andes the roads are curvy, some rocky places and beautiful landscapes. From here we make a trip of half an hour more to the town called Rinconada, here begins the walk of an hour and a half to the sanctuary Wacrapukara, where we will be guided by the Inti punku, the central square, towers, andenería, enclosure of Wiracocha and cave paintings. During the hike you can observe beautiful natural landscapes, many birds like sparrow hawks, hummingbirds, etc.. In the afternoon we return to our car and then return to the city of Cusco.
