DAY 01: Cusco – Manu Paradise lodge
Early at 7:00 AM, we will pick you up from your hotel in Cusco to begin our journey through the Andean mountains, beautiful landscapes, and Quechua communities with a millennia-old population. We will visit Ninamarca, a pre-Inca archaeological site (chullpas, or funerary tombs) belonging to the Lupaca culture.
Mid-morning, we’ll enjoy coffee and fresh fruit juices from the region in Paucartambo, a folkloric colonial town. Afterward, we’ll continue in our private vehicle toward Acjanaco, the entrance to Manu National Park. From there, we’ll descend into the lush cloud forest, home to a great variety of flora and fauna. It’s an ideal place for epiphytes, orchids, bromeliads, giant ferns, and dozens of hummingbird species. Here, we’ll explore the cloud forest and have the opportunity to observe Peru’s national bird, the colorful Andean Cock-of-the-rock, in its ritual mating dance, as well as toucans, trogons, quetzals, monkeys, and, with luck, the Andean spectacled bear (Tremantus ornatus). An extraordinary place for photography and birdwatching.
At 4:30 pm, we’ll arrive at Manu Paradise Lodge, at the confluence of the Kcosñipata and San Pedro rivers. We spend the night in our comfortable rooms, enjoy our dinner, and have free time for some cold drinks.
DAY 02: Manu Paraiso lodge – EcoManu lodge
Wake up to the sounds of birdsong and the lush cloud forest. We enjoy our healthy breakfast, accompanied by delicious organic coffee, seasonal fruits, and artisanal breads.
This morning, we explore the San Pedro area and search some tanagers, motmots, flycatchers, and small toucans. Then, we board our private vehicle to head to the Kcosñipata Valley and visit Pico de Oz Hummingbird Garden. Thanks to the great diversity of native flowering plants and feeding areas, dozens of hummingbird species and other birds are attracted, including guans, cookos, tanagers, honeycreepers, dacnis, king bultures, and more. Surrounded by an exotic environment and magical winged creatures, we’ll enjoy a magical lunch in the heart of the garden.
In the mid-afternoon, we continue our excursion to Atalaya river port, where our motorized boat awaits to take us to Eco Manu Lodge. Eco Manu lodge is nestled in a lush Amazonian landscape, surrounded by palm trees and a natural garden, offering harmony and tranquility for everyone to enjoy.
In the mid-afternoon, we head to our exclusive observation tower, a beautiful platform high above the forest and towering trees. From there, we’ll observe and photograph families of macaws, toucans, cotingas, trogons, flycatchers, beautiful tanagers, and groups of monkeys.
Overnight in the comfortable Eco Manu Lodge.
Optional activity: Night walks are organized by our guides with excellent headlamps, helping you spot beautiful nocturnal creatures such as frogs, armadillos, tarantulas, small caimans, and snakes in the wetlands and along the riverbanks.
DIA 03: ECOMANU LODGE
Very early in the morning, we board our boat to navigate the Madre de Dios River and head to the small clay lick (a wall of clay that containing mineral salts), a very important feature of the area, where many noisy parakeets, parrots, and small green macaws ingest the clay as part of their varied diet.
A perfect morning to appreciate the sunrise from our boat, and we will enjoy a healthy breakfast outdoors on the banks of the Madre de Dios River. Continuing our Amazonian expedition, we will head to the important Machuwasy Lake. With the help of a telescope and binoculars, we will observe a great variety of lake birds such as
herons, hawks, ducks, hoatzins, oropendolas, families of capybaras (the largest rodent in the world), and with luck, an impressive boa constrictor. Return to EcoManu Lodge for lunch. Typical dishes made with organic products from the region.
DIA 04: EcoManu Lodge – Cusco
Early in the morning, we’ll enjoy our healthy buffet breakfast in the middle of the Amazonian garden, surrounded by birds and hundreds of butterflies. It’s time to say goodbye to the Eco Manu Lodge team, great guardians and conservationists of the Amazon.
Transfer from Eco Manu Lodge to the Atalaya Port and return to the city of Cusco in our private vehicle.
On the way, we’ll visit the tanager and hummingbird garden in the cloud forest, a spectacular place for photography and birdwatching.
